OK Eric, we've got the antenna set
Now how do we get the hardline to the repeater on the ground?

Space Coast REACT, Inc provides Emergency Communications during Emergencies and Disasters, utilizing Amateur Radio, General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) in the UHF band, and continue to monitor Channel 9 on CB as often as possible.

We also provide Communications to assist other Non Profit Organizations, such as Special Olympics, March of Dimes, Vietnam Vetrans of Brevard (when the Wall replica is here), Walk-a-thons, Melbourne Christmas Parade, and other Organizations.

CB RADIO

Channel 9 on the Citizen Band (CB) radio is designated by the FCC as the Emergency Channel.  REACT  monitors Channel 9 as often as possible and schedules permit. However, during Emergencies and Disasters it is monitored closely.

In addition,  REACT  Teams will usually use another channel for a "work" channel. For:

Space Coast REACT  (Melbourne/Palm Bay) Channel 23
South Brevard County (Barefoot Bay/Grant) Channel 32

Repeaters, to the uninitiated, are used to retransmit a radio signal over a larger area. A person talking radio to radio on a 5 watt radio might might reach out 5 to 10 miles to another radio. With a repeater, he transmits to the repeater, which then retransmits the signal, using approximately 50 watts of power, over an area approximately 40 miles in a circle. Thus a greater range is effected particularly in Emergency circumstances.

Thus, in Brevard County, there are a number of repeaters, both on Amateur and GMRS (General Radio Mobile Service), some owned by Organizations and some owned by individuals. They are listed below.

Space Coast  REACT , Inc.
Amateur: 146.715 (open tone)
GMRS: 462.675 (toned)
GMRS: 462.550 (toned)

Brevard County Emergency Management
Amateur: 147.135
GMRS: 462.675 (toned)

 REACT  and Emergency Management
GMRS: 462.550 (Backup frequency)
